Isabelle Stengers
Isabelle Stengers (* 1949 in Brussels ) is a Belgian philosopher and science historian.
Live and act
Stengers first studied chemistry at the Université Libre de Bruxelles . Together with Ilya Prigogine , she wrote the book Dialogue with Nature , where the attempt is made to draw philosophical consequences from the non-equilibrium thermodynamics . She is now regarded as an expert in the field of the philosophy of science , dealt with the history of science, especially chemistry, and works as an associate professor at the Université Libre in Brussels. She has also published on Alfred North Whitehead , Critique of Psychoanalysis (and its neglect of hypnosis, with psychiatrist Léon Chertok ) and Critique of Ecological Capitalism.
In 1993 she received the Grand Prize for Philosophy from the Académie Française . In 1990 she founded the publishing house Empêcheurs de penser en rond with Philippe Pignarre .
Her father is the historian Jean Stengers (1922–2002).
