Isao Yukisada ( Japanese 行 定 勲 , Yukisada Isao ; born August 3, 1968 in Kumamoto Prefecture ) is a Japanese film director and screenwriter .

During his studies he worked for a production company, which slowly introduced him to music videos and television films . In 1998, after 3 years as assistant director, he made his first own film called Open House , followed by Himawari in 2000 and Go in 2001 . His film Parade from 2009 was presented in the Panorama section at the 60th Berlinale .

In 2018 he filmed a manga by Kyōko Okazaki with On the Riverside . The film opened the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival 2018 .

In 2020, his film Theater: A Love Story was released in Japanese cinemas on July 17th and simultaneously worldwide on Amazon Prime Video . It is the first Japanese film for which Amazon secured the exclusive worldwide distribution rights and released it at the same time as the Japanese theatrical release.
