Ishii Baku
Ishii Baku ( Japanese 石井 漠 ; * December 25, 1886 , † January 7, 1962 ) was a Japanese dancer and choreographer.
Ishii trained as a dancer at the Imperial Theater in Tokyo. He then turned to the concept of free and natural dance by Isadora Duncan and the rhythmic gymnastics by Émile Jaques-Dalcroze .
From 1922 to 1925 he toured the United States and Europe with his partner Ishii Konami . Here he received lasting influences from Mary Wigman . After returning to Japan, he opened a dance school. Along with Eguchi Takaya and Itō Michio, he is one of the pioneers of modern dance in Japan.
His daughter Ishii Midori was also known as a dancer. His sons Ishii Kan and Ishii Maki were composers.
