Ishii Kan
Ishii Kan ( Japanese 石井 歓 ; born March 30, 1921 in Tokyo , † November 24, 2009 in Yokohama ) was a Japanese composer.
The son of the dancer Ishii Baku played the piano in his father's dance troupe. He studied from 1939 to 1943 at the Musashino Conservatory and was a student of Ikenouchi Tomojiro . After training in Japan, he was a student of Carl Orff in Munich from 1952 to 1954 .
Until 1956 he taught at the Tōhō-Gakuen Music Academy . From 1958 he completed his training with Boris Blacher and Josef Rufer . From 1966 to 1986 he taught at the Nagoya School of Art.
He composed six operas and one operetta, three ballets, a symphonic poem, chamber music works, choral music and solo chants as well as film scores. His brother Ishii Maki was also known as a composer.
