Isidoro Díaz Mejía (born February 14, 1938 in Acatlán de Juárez , Jalisco State ) is a retired Mexican soccer player who played for Chivas Guadalajara between 1955 and 1968 and was part of the legendary team that was seven times Mexican in the nine years between 1957 and 1965 Master became and was nicknamed "Campeonísimo". In the early years he played as a right winger and later as a right midfielder. He was also known by his nickname "el Chololo" (the mestizo).

career

Although he had acted as a right winger at the beginning of his career and in this role caused a lot of turbulence and unrest in the opposing penalty area, his club coach De la Torre ordered him back into right midfield. He has held this position since the early 1960s and held it until the end of his career. In both positions he was one of the best players of his time in Mexico. A fact that is underpinned by his 63 international appearances in the ten years between 1960 and 1970. No other player from the “Campeonísimo” era appeared so often for the Mexican national team . He scored a total of 13 goals; three of them in a World Cup qualifier against Jamaica (8-0) on May 7, 1965.

Diaz was appointed to the national squad for three world championships: 1962, 1966 and 1970. While he was a regular player in the first two cases and participated in all matches, he was no longer used in the 1970 World Cup in his own country. Because at that time he was no longer the undisputed top player in his position, which was probably the reason for his departure from Chivas Guadalajara and the frequent changes at the end of his career. He played from 1968 to 1970 at the Club León , then one season (1970/71) for also in Chivas Guadalajara -based CSD Jalisco and last (1971-72) for the second division Mastines de Naucalpan .
