Iskallatu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Iskallatu was a queen of the Arabs at the time of the Assyrian King Sennacherib (704–681 BC). She was captured when the fortress of Adumutu was captured by the Assyrian troops and brought to Nineveh with numerous spoils . Nothing is known about their further fate.

Assurhaddon however, mentioned in an inscription from Nineveh some Tabua , "which was brought up in my father's palace" and which he after the submission of Hazael , which with a request for the return of the captured by Sennacherib gods with numerous gifts to Nineveh , had come married to this one ("... I sat above her as queen at his side"), who is perhaps a daughter of Iskallatus.

The pre-Islamic Arab tribes were relatively often ruled by queens. Zenobia of Palmyra is probably the most famous of these .
