The Lobos de Tierra is a Peruvian island in the Pacific Ocean 7 km from the coast.

It is a 10 km long and 3 km wide sandy island on a granite base, with an area of 14.3 km², according to official data 16 km². It belongs to the Distrito de Puerto Etén , one of the twenty districts of the Lambayeque province . The sub-islands of Lobos de Tierra include El León and Albatros .

The temperatures on the island are high. Birds such as pelicans , blue-footed boobies , seagulls , boobies and guanocormorants live on it ; the latter two species were of great importance during the heyday of guano mining. More than 7 million tons of guano had been extracted by 1863. This resource has almost completely disappeared today, with some dilapidated buildings and facilities such as railway tracks testifying to this past.

The island of Lobos de Tierra takes its name from its proximity to the coast - see the smaller island group Islas Lobos de Afuera  , a good 40 km south and 50 km from the mainland - and the presence of maned seals . The blue whale can also be found among passing whales .
