Ismail Özen (married Ismail Özen-Otto ) (born November 25, 1981 in Hamburg ) is a Turkish boxing promoter and former professional boxer.

Life

Özen is a Kurdish Alevite , he grew up in the Hamburg district of Altona . As of 2009, he played as a professional boxer 14 fights, of which he won twelve and lost two. He won the title of International German Super Middleweight Champion. In 2013 he founded the association “Kampf Deines Leben”, which, among other things, uses sports activities to do youth work in socially disadvantaged areas.

At the beginning of February 2019, Özen announced that his Turkish passport had been confiscated by the Hamburg Consulate General of Turkey because there was an arrest warrant against him in Turkey. The reason for the arrest warrant was not given to him by his own admission. Özen is a critic of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and has since applied for German citizenship.

In May 2019 Özem took over the rights to the boxing stable Universum Box-Promotion , which had gone bankrupt in 2013, and took over the management of the boxing stable with training center in Grosse Elbstrasse in Hamburg-Altona . In the same year he signed Artem Harutiunian and his brother Robert Harutiunian , and in August 2019 an agreement was signed with the television broadcaster ZDF to broadcast the fights of the Universum boxers. Özen-Otto, who emphasized the financial independence of the boxing stable from his wife's family, stated that the goal for the "revived" boxing stable was to want to become "number one in Europe". To do this, he incorporated former universe greats such as Juan Carlos Gomez and Artur Grigorian as trainers.

Private

Özen married Janina Otto, the daughter of the entrepreneur Michael Otto, in Uetersen near Hamburg in July 2016 and has been called Ismail Özen-Otto since around June 2019.
