The Isola di San Giovanni is located 30 meters west of the shore in front of the Verbania town Pallanza and is - apart from the tiny Scoglio della Malghera - the smallest of the Borromean Islands in Lake Maggiore . It belongs to the municipality of Verbania and Frazione Pallanza.

The almost circular island with a diameter of around 140 meters and an area of 0.4 hectares is still privately owned by Borromeo and is not allowed to be entered by tourists. It was once the summer residence of the famous Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini (1867–1957).
