On February 28, 2007 Castro came in a friendly against Venezuela (3-1) for the first time for the Mexican national soccer team. His greatest success with the national team was winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2009 . Less than three weeks after the impressive final game, which the Mexicans won 5-0 against the USA on July 26, 2009 at Giants Stadium , the two teams faced each other again on August 12, 2009 as part of the 2010 World Cup qualification . This time the Mexicans won "only" 2-1 at the Aztec Stadium , but Castro scored his first and so far only international goal in this game. After the 0-1 deficit, he scored the immensely important equalizer.
