Istanbul Biennale

The Istanbul Biennial (English: "International Istanbul Biennial") is a biennial that has been held in Istanbul every two years since 1987 . It is organized by the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts .

The 10th Istanbul Biennale took place from September 8th to November 4th 2007; The exhibited artists included Adel Abdessemed , Kutluğ Ataman , Atom Egoyan , Rem Koolhaas and Ken Lum . The curator was Hou Hanru .

The 11th Istanbul Biennale was held in autumn 2009 and curated by the team of curators What, How & for Whom (WHW) from Zagreb . It was entitled: What Keeps Mankind Alive? , the English translation of the song What does man live on? from the Threepenny Opera by Bertolt Brecht . The 12th Istanbul Biennale took place in autumn 2011 with the title Untitled . In 2015 the 14th Istanbul Biennale took place under the motto Tuzlu Su - Salt Water at 36 exhibition locations in Istanbul, from the northern end of the Bosporus to the Prince Islands in the Sea of ​​Marmara . The 15th Istanbul Biennale in 2017 was curated by the Berlin-based artist couple Elmgreen and Dragset .
