Istrokles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Istrokles (Ἰστροκλές) was an ancient Greek vase painter or potter who lived around 640 BC. Was active in Smyrna .

Istrokles is only known from a fragmentary inscription on the fragment of a dinosaur . The dinosaur was probably dedicated to the goddess Artemis . Today the rest of the dinosaur is in the Izmir Archaeological Museum . It is unclear whether the signature can be ascribed to the potter or the vase painter who decorated the vessel.
