In classical archeology, a dinosaur is a large vessel with a hemispherical body made of clay or metal , which usually stands on a base. The dinosaur was used to mix water and wine .

In the ancient written sources a drinking vessel called Deinos or Dinos is mentioned, the shape of which has been compared to that of a human head, but cannot be precisely identified in the archaeological material. The term dinosaurs is therefore actually wrong in modern archeology; the term Lebes , which is also used, would be correct .
