from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

István Montvay (born July 29, 1940 in Debrecen ) is a Hungarian theoretical physicist who deals with lattice scale theories .

Montvay studied physics at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and was then a lecturer at the Institute for Theoretical Physics. From 1975 he headed the High Energy Physics Department at the Central Research Institute for Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences . From 1978 he was in the Federal Republic of Germany, first at the University of Bielefeld and then at the University of Hamburg. From 1985 he was a scientist at DESY in Hamburg , where he retired in 2005. Among other things, he dealt with supersymmetry on the lattice and the lattice simulation of dynamic fermions. Montvay wrote a textbook on lattice scale theories with Gernot Münster . In 2018 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Physics Department of the University of Münster.
