In the plot of the pop ballad , the protagonist admits that after the deliberate separation she will not let herself get down from a painful relationship and that now her time has come to stand on her own two feet and be independent.
The publication took place on September 29, 1980. Once released, the song served as the namesake for the film It's My Turn, starring Jill Clayburgh and Michael Douglas , which came out that same year.
In an episode of Girlfriends , Monica's mother sings the song.
