The ItN Nanovation AG is a German nanotechnology company based in Saarbrücken . The core business is the research, production, trading and marketing of nanoparticles and their by-products and products. The company's share is traded in the General Standard and is included in the CDAX .

history

The company was founded as ItN Nanovation GmbH on March 23, 2001. The focus was initially on coatings for industrial applications and water filtration solutions. On April 20, 2006, the company name was changed to a stock corporation . On July 28, 2006, the company went public on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange . At the time of the IPO, ItN Nanovation had 60 employees.

In 2012 the coatings business area was spun off to Ceranovis GmbH . ItN Nanovation then concentrated on water filtration. Despite international projects, for example for deep water filtration in Saudi Arabia or for post -filtration in sewage treatment plants and for process water, the company made operational losses in the millions over several years. In 2016, the previous main owners sold all shares to the Chinese company SafBon Investment . For around 4 million euros (purchase price and capital increase ) and a bridging loan of 500,000 euros, bankruptcy was averted. The establishment of a production and development department in China was planned with the new investor. In November 2018, the Board of Management again determined the impending insolvency. Thanks to the commitment of financial support from SafBon Investment , however, an application for bankruptcy could be avoided.

Criticism and course development

As early as March 2007, just a few months after ItN Nanovation went public, Spiegel Online took a critical look at the business model of start-up companies in the nanotechnology industry and warned against their “dubious stocks” as “ dot-com style dumbbells ". In fact, the shares were allotted at a price of EUR 20 each and the price fluctuated in 2006 between EUR 15.30 and EUR 29.00. A month before the critical report, in February 2007, the CEO told the Handelsblatt : " Since the IPO in 2006, our share price has been around 20 percent above the issue price ". As of November 2019, the rate is still 0.25 euros. The share has thus fallen by around 98.8% since it was issued.
