The Itezhitezhi Dam of the Kafue in the Kafue National Park in Zambia is a dam made of earth and rock debris.
use
The reservoir serves, with its storage capacity of 6000 mcm the continuous flow to the flow 450 km and 230 km as the crow flow downstream Kafue dam .
Electricity generation is to be expanded to 120 MW from 2008.
Kafueauen
In the Kafue National Park, the Itezhitezhi Reservoir is a popular tourist destination. The place Itezhi Tezhi is northeast of the dam. This is where the Kafueauen begin, which extends to the town of Kafue .
A constant water level is maintained for fishing and the Kafue floodplains between the two reservoirs are periodically flooded for grazing. Before the dam was built, the Kafueaue and the surrounding area turned into a 5000 km² inland lake in the rainy season. That no longer happens today. The dam and the Lukanga swamps completely hold the water in the rainy season.
