Lieding is a village in the municipality of Strasbourg in the Carinthian Gurktal . Lieding is a clustered village west of Strasbourg at 681 m above sea level. A. around a rock above the valley floor of the Gurk. In the local area there is the parish church of St. Margaretha , the associated rectory and a farm with a farm building.
history
Finds from Roman times, such as a milestone and coins, suggest that Lieding was already settled in ancient times.
The place was first mentioned in a document in 975. Emperor Otto II granted Countess Imma the privilege to set up a market and a mint in Liubedinga , Lieding, and to collect market duties . This right was transferred to a monastery that was being founded at the time. It is not known whether the foundation of the monastery and its associated, St. Maria consecrated church has been completed, or whether this project had previously failed due to the private church policy of the Salzburg archbishops .
In 1043 the Liedingen church was re-established at its present location by Hemma von Gurk , Imma's descendant. In 1131 it became a parish church . After a fire in 1200, after which only the portal of the original building remained, the church was rebuilt. Under Bishop Gerold (r. 1326-1333) Lieding was subordinated to the college chapter of Strasbourg, the provosts of Strasbourg were also owners of the wealthy parish of Lieding for a long time.
In the late 15th century, at the time of the Turkish invasions, Lieding was set up for defense. The church, charnel house, rectory and farm building formed a defensive structure. The walls from this time have not been preserved, only the iron-studded doors of the rectory still bear witness to the former strength of defense.
During excavation work in 1869, remains of the wall were found that were interpreted as originating from the monastery.
Lieding today
The parish of Lieding still encompasses a large part of Strasbourg, while the parish of Strasbourg lies like an island within the parish of Lieding. Today only two residents with main residence Lieding are registered in the village (as of January 1, 2015).
