Itschner (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Itschner is an old Swiss aristocratic family that has been resident in Stäfa since 1384 . The name and the family comes from the district of Itschnach in the municipality of Küsnacht . The family was first mentioned in a document in 1326 in Hottingen (Zurich). A second German line emerged in Baden-Württemberg in the 17th century and a third American line in the 19th century. The three branches of the family still exist today.

Viticulture

The family can look back on centuries of important winemaking tradition and owned their winery in Stäfa. As early as 1530, Obervogt Peter Itschner had a vine knife in his seal. Finally, in 1861, the offspring of the family united this tradition in the Stäfner wine trading company Gebrüder Itschner AG and settled in Hottingen. For half a century the cellar, cooperage and office were divided into several properties. It was not until 1914 that the successful Itschner brothers united the entire company under the roof of the Promenadehof wine shop. Finally, the company was sold at the end of the 1960s.
