Ivaldo Bertazzo

Ivaldo Bertazzo (* 1939 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian choreographer , dancer and educator whose choreographies give young people from the favelas a perspective. This initiative is unique in the world and represents a new form of ethical education for difficult young people.

Life

Ivaldo Bertazzo was born the son of an Italian and a Lebanese woman and has been dancing professionally since he was 16. As a dancer he performed in many countries, such as Turkey, Greece, Spain, India, Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.

In 1975 he established the Escola de Movimento (Movement School), which started a series of educational projects for young people, which he also presented abroad. These are projects with young people from mostly difficult social backgrounds or from the favelas that give young people a perspective in their neighborhoods through dance, movement and cultural education, but also as mentors. The school is located in São Paulo .

Prices

In 2004 Bertazzo received the Prince Claus Prize .
