Ivan Šimonović (politician)
Ivan Šimonović (born May 2, 1959 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian legal scholar, politician and diplomat .
Life
He graduated from the University of Zagreb with a degree in law in 1982 and obtained his doctorate there in 1990 . From 1992 he was an assistant in the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1997 to 2002 he was Croatia's Ambassador to the United Nations . From 2002 to 2003 he was Croatia's Deputy Foreign Minister in the government of Ivica Račan .
From October 2008 to July 2010 he was Croatian Minister of Justice in the cabinets of Ivo Sanader and Jadranka Kosor . He does not belong to any party. Since July 2010, as Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, he has been a key contributor to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon .
In addition, since 2004 he has been professor of general legal and political theory at the University of Zagreb.
