Ivan Kukuljević Sakcinski (1889)

Ivan Kukuljević-Sakcinski (born May 29, 1816 in Varaždin (Warasdin), Croatia ; † August 1, 1889 in Puhakovec ) was a Croatian historian and legal scholar, who first devoted himself to poetry, and took part in the political movement of 1848 1861 chief clan of Agram county and 1875 president of the state school board .

He was president of the South Slavic Historical Society, whose Arkiv (1850–75, 12 volumes) he edited, and through his research on history and antiquity, his energetic representation of Croatian nationality in the Croatian provincial parliaments and his efforts to reorganize the Legal system made known on a national basis.

His Jura regni Croatiae, Dalmatiae et Slavoniae (Agram 1861–62, 3 volumes) and the Monumenta historica Slavorum meridionalium (ibid. 1868–75, 3 volumes) are to be mentioned of his works . He also organized editions of old Dalmatian writers, published a Croatian bibliography (1863), a South Slavic artist lexicon (1869), etc. His poems, dramas and stories were collected under the title Različita djela ("Mixed Scriptures", Agram 1842–47, 4 volumes) .

In 1856 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg .
