Ivan Monteiro de Barros Lins

Ivan Monteiro de Barros Lins (born April 16, 1904 in Belo Horizonte , † June 16, 1975 in Rio de Janeiro ) was a Brazilian essayist and philosopher .

Lins attended the Colégio Anglo-Americano and the Colégio Arnaldo in Belo Horizonte. In 1917 he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he completed his medical degree in 1930 when he was already a positivist . In 1932 he became secretary of the Estação Experimental de Combustíveis e Minérios, and in 1937 professor of the history of philosophy at the law faculty of the Universidade do Brasil . During the Vargas era he was appointed Minister of the Federal Audit Office, of which he was President. In 1957 he became a member of the Academia Brasileira de Letras , whose cadeira 1 he occupied.

Lins is considered one of the most prominent advocates of positivism in Brazil.
