location

It is located on a hill along the Adriatic coast between Tisno and Vodice . The island of Murter is a few kilometers to the west . In the direction of Tisno there is the Gračina viewpoint .

history

Roman traces show an early settlement of this place. There are several fountains from Roman times in the surrounding fields. The archaeological site of Ivinj, where the Church of St. Martin was later built, was named a cultural asset on July 20, 2012. On the basis of a resolution by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, it was also given the status of a cultural monument. There is a Roman villa here from the 1st century AD. This villa was built by an unknown immigrant who moved to Ivinj after the end of the Batonic Uprising .

At the beginning of the first century he built a building that served both a residential and an economic purpose. After further modifications, the building grew into a large villa rustica . The villa had its own courtyard, oil production and storage and there were rooms for the workers. A separate, luxuriously furnished area of the villa with an indoor bathroom was used by the owner of the villa (Dominus). Remains of a mosaic found in the villa testify to the luxurious life. These remains are in the exhibition in the Katunaric Palace in Tisno. A basilica was added to the villa in the 5th century. A baptistery was added in the 6th century. There is a small chapel from the 12th century. This church of St. Martin has been preserved to this day and Holy Mass is held there every year on November 11th ( St. Martin's Day ). The Martinskirche in Ivinj documents the veneration of Saint Martin in Dalmatia in the period from the 6th to the 11th century.

The village consists of about 55 houses. At the foot of the hill, where the bay ends, a Christian cemetery and the foundations of the church were recently discovered.

Infrastructure

There are no shops in Ivinj. Vegetables, fruits, cheese, eggs and meat are produced through agriculture and livestock farming. For shopping you have to go to Tisno or Vodice.
