Ivo Hennemann (born February 26, 1824 in Oberleiterbach as Johann Hennemann ; † September 11, 1900 there ) was a German hermit .

Life

The hermit Ivo Hennemann was born on February 26th, 1824 as Johann Hennemann in Oberleiterbach , house number 1 (today Einsiedler-Ivo-Straße 3). The Franciscan novice was given the new name when he was dressed in the pilgrimage basilica of Vierzehnheiligen .

Ivo Hennemann became known thanks to the Frankenlied by Joseph Victor von Scheffel , who mentioned it in two of the six stanzas in 1859. From February 8, 1857 to October 9, 1897 he lived in the hermitage on the Staffelberg . On September 11, 1900, he died in his home town of Oberleiterbach.

His grave can still be found today in the middle of the defensive walls that protect the St. Laurentius Church.

Oberleiterbach is on the Franconian Way of St. James . In 2014 the local soldiers and comradeship association had a plaque erected in memory of the town's most famous son. This can be found directly on the defensive wall. In addition, a primary school and a street were named after him.
