Oberleiterbach is a district of the market Zapfendorf in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg with 274 inhabitants.

Since 2016 it has been the first and only bioenergy village in the Bamberg district and winner of the Upper Franconian Citizens' Energy Prize.

Neighboring towns are Kutzenberg and Prächting in the north, Kleukheim in the east, Peusenhof in the south-east (all four Markt Ebensfeld , Lichtenfels district ), Reuthlos in the south and Unterleiterbach in the west (both Markt Zapfendorf). The Franconian Marienweg runs through the village .

history

The Michelsberg monastery courtyards "Leiderbach" (today Laurentiusring 4 and 8) were first mentioned in 1221. The name Oberleiterbach appears for the first time in the history books in 1323 and as early as 1498 there were around 200 inhabitants. In the Thirty Years' War of the village was destroyed more than half. The land consolidation was carried out from 1960 to 1974. Oberleiterbach was an independent municipality in the dissolved district of Staffelstein before it was incorporated into the market in Zapfendorf (district of Bamberg) on ​​July 1, 1972.

Oberleiterbach has a very active club life. The volunteer fire brigade provides fire protection and general help and is also the organizer of the parish fair. In 2013 a new fire station was opened for use. Other associations are the soldiers and comradeship association, the horticultural association, the Klein Hollywood Stammtisch and the Red Rebels darts club.

The parish fair takes place every year on the first weekend in September.

Oberleiterbach became a federal gold village in 1977. In 2016 the place won gold at the district level in the village competition "Our village has a future - our village should be more beautiful". On July 18, 2017, the place achieved the gold medal at the district level. In 2018 Oberleiterbach takes part in the state decision.
