Sassendorf is part of the municipality of the Zapfendorf market in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg .

geography

The place has about 280 inhabitants and is at an altitude of about 370 meters. Neighboring towns are Lauf (approx. 2 km, Markt Zapfendorf), Zapfendorf (approx. 3.5 km) and Hohengüßbach (approx. 1 km, municipality of Breitengüßbach ). Sassendorf is surrounded by forest in the west and east, only in the south and north there are agricultural areas. Sassendorf is located south of Zapfendorf and north of Breitengüßbach. Sassendorf is also known regionally for its wind turbine, which is about one kilometer west of the village.

history

When Sassendorf was founded is uncertain. Possibly the place is a foundation of the Saxons, who were defeated by Charlemagne . In 1907 a new school building was built, in 1908 a local chapel.

On July 1, 1972, the previously independent community was incorporated into the Zapfendorf market.

Sports club

The football club SV Blau-Weiß Sassendorf plays in the A-class Bamberg, the second lowest class in German football . The club's sports field is located approx. 500 meters outside the village.
