Ivan Kataev ( Russian Иван Иванович Катаев ; born May 14 . Jul / 27. May  1902 greg. In Moscow ; † 19th August 1937 ) was a Russian prose writers.

Katajew joined the Communist Party in 1919 and became a volunteer in the Red Army . In 1923 he became a member of the RAPP and in 1926 of the literary group Perewal ("Mountain Pass"). His most famous work, Milch, deals with collectivization . From 1934 he was a leading member of the Writers' Union of the USSR . In 1937 he fell victim to the Stalin purges .
