Ivan Romanov (Bishop)
Ivan Romanow , also Ivan Romanov or Ivan Romanoff , (born September 10, 1878 in Sekirowo (1966 united to Rakowski ), Bulgaria ; † January 8, 1953 in Shumen , Bulgaria) was a Bulgarian Roman Catholic bishop.
Romanoff was ordained a priest on September 21, 1901 . Pope Pius XII appointed him on July 6, 1942 Vicar Apostolic of Sofia and Plovdiv and Titular Bishop of Prisriana . On October 4, 1942, Giuseppe Mazzoli , Apostolic Delegate of Bulgarians, donated him episcopal ordination. Co- consecrators were Damian Johannes Theelen , Bishop of Nicopoli , and Smiljan Franjo Čekada , Bishop of Skopje .
He was arrested during the trials of Catholic priests in Bulgaria. On October 29, 1952, the Sofia District Court investigated the case. He died on January 8, 1953 after being tortured several times.
His beatification process began on November 17, 1998.
