Iwona Guzowska (born February 7, 1974 in Gdańsk ) is a Polish kickboxer and Taekwondoin.

Life

She holds the 57-3 record in various forms of kickboxing, starting with the half-contact competition where she won a Polish championship. In light contact she won the Polish championship in October 1993, she was third at the 1992 European championships and won the 1993 and 1997 world championships. She also won two gold medals at the 1997 European championships.

In full contact kickboxing she finished second at her first world championship in 1993 and won the world championship in 1995. She also won two gold medals at the European championships in 1997. Her record includes a simple win against Galina Giumliiska from Bulgaria and a knockout win over Italian Stefania Bianchini.

She made her professional boxing debut on February 13, 1999 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój ( Poland ) with a technical knockout in the first round against Bulgarian Emilia Velizarova-Jakimowa.

On April 17, 1999 in Warsaw she won with a technical knockout in the second round against Vanda Correia from Portugal .

She defeated the Dutch Esther Schouten on July 17, 1999 in Gdańsk. Thus she won the WIBF featherweight title. The fight lasted ten rounds.

Guzowska's fourth fight was also held in Gdańsk. On September 18, 1999 this time for the WIBO featherweight title. Her opponent was the taller French Valerie Rangeard. The fight lasted 10 rounds and ended with a unilateral decision for Guzowska, she was the first Polish woman to ever win a boxing world championship.

On November 20, 1999 in Gliwice Iwona successfully defended her WIBO featherweight title against Cynthia Prouder.

On April 8, 2000 in Gdańsk, she defeated Christine Kreuz from Chicago and won the IWBF featherweight title.

On November 4th in the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London she lost to the Bulgarian Galina Giumliiska. The fight lasted four rounds.

On December 2, 2000 in the Nowa Hala Sportowa in Gdańsk, she won against Leona Brown. The fight lasted eight rounds and ended 77-75.77-75.78-74 for Guzowska.

In April 2001, Iwona was nominated for WBAN's Fighter of the Month.

On September 29, 2001 in Gdańsk she won the WIBO world champion title in featherweight back. With a ten round decision against America's WIBF featherweight champion Kelsey Jeffries of Gilroy, California. Guzowska increased to 8-1 (2 KOs); Jeffries fell to 11-4 (1 KO).

On October 24, 2002 at Hala Orbita in Wrocław, Guzowska returned to the ring and increased her record to 9-1-0 (2 KOs). With an easy ten round decision against Monica Petrova from Sofia , Bulgaria .
