János Rihetzky

János Rihetzky (born August 23, 1903 in Pestzentersebet , † December 19, 1976 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian wrestler.

Career

János Rihetzky started in both styles, Greco-Roman and free style. He only reached the top Hungarian class at the age of 30 and was the first Hungarian champion in free style in the middleweight division in 1933. By 1948 he won the Hungarian championship a total of fifteen times in both styles in the weight classes of medium, light and heavyweight.

At international wrestling championships he started for the first time at the European championship in 1935 in Greco-Roman style in Copenhagen . He won there over Karl Eriksen from Norway and Voldemar Mägi from Estonia on points. In his third fight he was defeated by the French Bechir Bouazzat and had to retire because he had scored five missing points.

At the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin , János Rihetzky started in free style in the middleweight division. It was like in Copenhagen. He won over Karam Rasul from India and Ludvig Lindblom from Sweden on points and lost to Ernst Krebs from Switzerland and had to retire with five missing points after the third round. In the end result, he took 7th place.

At the European Free Style Championships in Munich in 1937 , he almost succeeded in the really big coup. He won on points over Jan Pelikan from Czechoslovakia , then shouldered Antonio Furlan from Italy and also won against three-time Olympic champion Ivar Johansson from Sweden on points. Surprisingly, he lost his last fight against Paul Dätwyler from Switzerland and had 4 missing points. Ivar Johansson, who shouldered Datwyler and all the other opponents, only had 3 missing points and won ahead of János Rihetzky.

After the Second World War János Rihetzky was again at the European Championship in 1947 in Greco-Roman. Style in Prague in the heavyweight division. He won there over Johannes Arts from the Netherlands and Adolf Porizek from Austria . He lost to Johannes Kotkas from the Soviet Union , the European champion from 1938 and 1939, and Pauli Riihimäki from Finland and came in 4th place.

Then János Rihetzky became a professional wrestler and was preferably at the start in Europe. After finishing his professional career, he returned to Hungary.
