The Jämsänjoki is a river in the Finnish countryside of central Finland .
It forms the outflow of Lake Kankarisvesi . On its approximately 15 km long stretch of river in a southerly direction, it passes the towns of Jämsänkoski and Jämsä before it flows into the Päijänne from the northwest . The catchment area of the Jämsänjoki covers 1,448.3 km². In this are a number of lakes such as Ylä-Kintaus , Ala-Kintaus , Jämsänvesi , Petäjävesi and Iso Rautavesi . The circular Karikkoselkä impact crater lake is also located in the Jämsänjoki catchment area. Including source rivers, the total length of the river system reaches about 100 km.
There are numerous peat bogs in the catchment area of Jämsänjoki, which are responsible for the brown color of the water.
