Jón Helgason (writer, 1914)

Jón Helgason (* 1914 ; † 1981 ) was an Icelandic writer.

Life

He grew up on the Stóra-Botn farm on Hvalfjörður . For one winter he attended a rural training school. For a few months he studied at a cooperative school. From 1937 he worked as a journalist for several newspapers. Mostly he worked for the Timinn ( time ), the press organ of the progress party . In 1961 he became editor of the newspaper.

Jón wrote biographies of Icelandic personalities and worked as a translator. In addition, he was the author of monographs and encyclopedias dealing with the history and geography of Iceland and in particular his home town Borgarfjörður . He also published volumes of short stories.
