Józef Stefan Turczynowicz

Józef Stefan Turczynowicz († 1773 ) was chaplain of the parish church of St. Stephen (Vilnius) and before that canon of Pilten or provost of the Roman Catholic parish in Dzięcioł.

He was active as a philanthropist and also as a missionary in the nawrócenie (conversion) of the Lithuanian Jews to Catholicism .

To fulfill its mission among the Eastern Jews and the poor, he founded two congregations , one men's and one women's religious community . The latter was recognized in 1752 by Pope Benedict XIV as the Congregation of the Sisters of the Life of Mary .
