The Jökulfirðir (German glacier fjords ) are five fjords in the West Fjords of Iceland .
The Jökulfirðir lie between Hornstrandir in the north and the Ísafjarðardjúp . The Drangajökull glacier gives them their name. It is south of the fjords. Today the whole country around the fjords is no longer inhabited, apart from a few summer houses. The last residents moved away in the 1960s. There are no roads here. You can only reach these fjords by boat.
The Jökulfirðir include:
- Hesteyrarfjörður (German fjord of the horse sandbank )
- Veiðileysufjörður ( Eng.Fjord without fishing )
- Lónafjörður (German lagoon fjord )
- Hrafnsfjörður (Eng. Rabenfjord ), easternmost fjord
- Leirufjörður (Eng. Lehmfjord ), the only fjord on the south bank
