Jörg Fürst

Jörg Fürst (* 1969 in Tönisvorst ) is a German theater director and author .

Life

Jörg Fürst is the founder of the independent Cologne theater group A.TONAL.THEATER (since 2002), co-founder of the Cologne ensemble network Freihandelszone (since 2004) and in the artistic direction of the international Cologne dance and theater festivals GLOBALIZE: COLOGNE (2006-2016) and URBÄNG! (since 2017). Since 2013 he has been artistic director of the VolXbühne - Ensemble of Generations at the Theater an der Ruhr in Mülheim an der Ruhr. He was also a guest director a. a. for the Schauspiel Bonn , at the house of the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, in the Studiobühne Cologne and the theater in the building tower - free theater in Cologne. He previously worked as a freelance assistant director with Achim Freyer ( Berliner Ensemble ), Dietrich Hilsdorf ( Schauspiel Bonn ) and Robert Wilson ( Ruhrtriennale ).

Jörg Fürst holds a master's degree from the Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn. He lives in Cologne.

honors and awards

In 2005 (with Wir im Finale - A German Requiem by Marc Becker ) and 2011 (with Faust I by Johann Wolfgang Goethe ) he was awarded the Cologne Theater Prize. In 2019 he received the Kurt Hackenberg Prize for political theater in Cologne as one of the artistic directors of the international dance and theater festival URBÄNG !. In 2004, his production WUALITZAAA with poems by Ernst Jandl was awarded the main prize of the 11th Theaterzwang Festival in Dortmund (today "Favoriten Festival") and was nominated for the renowned IMPULSE Festival as one of the 23 best theater productions of 2002. In 2015 his adaptation of Elfriede Jelinek's "Winterreise" was nominated for the Cologne Theater Prize and the Kurt Hackenberg Prize for political theater in Cologne.
