Jörg Fromm is a German forest scientist and professor of general wood biology at the University of Hamburg .

Career

Fromm studied forest sciences from 1979 to 1984 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1986 he received his doctorate at the Forest Botanical Institute there, where he worked as a research assistant until 1991 . In 1991 he completed his habilitation in forest botany , which was followed by a research stay at Cornell University (USA) in 1992 . From 1992 to 1996 Fromm was a scholarship holder of the Heisenberg Program of the German Research Foundation, which supports promising scientists on their way to a long-term professorship. From 1996 to 2007 Fromm taught as a professor for applied wood biology at the Technical University of Munich , until he accepted the call to Hamburg in 2007 and has held the professorship for general wood biology there ever since.

Research priorities

Jörg Fromm researches the influence of climate change on tree growth and wood formation as well as stress reactions in plants. He is also interested in palm research with a focus on palm leaf manuscripts. Fromm is involved in the following clusters of excellence at Universität Hamburg :
