Jörg Leichtfried

Jörg Leichtfried (* 1984 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian jazz pianist and composer .

Career

Leichtfried's music education began early and was purely classical at first. At the age of 13 he became interested in jazz . Later he studied jazz piano concert at the Music and Art University of the City of Vienna with Oliver Kent . In 2010 he graduated with honors as a Master of Arts.

Jörg Leichtfried began an international concert career during his studies. In 2011 he founded the duo "Mayer / Leichtfried" together with the Viennese harmonica virtuoso Bertl Mayer. In 2012 their album "Rooms" was released. Based on the start scholarship from the Federal Ministry of Art and Culture, a longer work stay in New York followed in 2013. In 2014 "Magicians, Sound And Other Beauties", Leichtfried's second album, was released under his own name. This production emerged from the Jörg Leichtfried Trio, with the musicians Andreas Waelti (bass) and Vladimir Kostadinovic (drums). In 2017 Leichtfried founded a new trio project called Esja, with Hubert Bründlmayer (drums), Stefan "Pista" Bartus (bass). In 2017 he received a composition commission from the state of Lower Austria for the program at the Odessa Jazz Festival in Ukraine.

Leichtfried taught at the Prayner Conservatory for Music and Dramatic Art in Vienna until 2018 . He also worked as a guest lecturer at SET Vienna. Leichtfried has been a lecturer in jazz piano at the JAM MUSIC LAB Private University since 2019 .
