Jörg Roesler

Jörg Roesler (born November 25, 1940 in Berlin ) is a German economic historian.

Roesler studied economic history from 1959 to 1964 at the Humboldt University in Berlin and later taught there as an assistant or senior assistant at the Institute for Economic History . In 1968 he received his doctorate. From 1974 to 1991 Roesler was division or department head at the Institute for Economic History of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . 1975 followed the PhD B to Dr. sc. oec., appointed professor in 1983.

In 1992 he received a visiting professorship at McGill University in Montreal, and in 1994/95 he received a further visiting professorship in Toronto, Canada. In the 2006 summer semester, he taught at Portland State University in the USA. Until 1995 Roesler worked as a research assistant at the Center for Contemporary History in Potsdam.

His main research interests are the history of the GDR and its economy, in particular the social history of work and the contradictions between the demands and reality of the GDR planned economy.

Jörg Roesler is a member of the Leibniz Society and the Historical Commission of the Left Party .
