Jörg Schmitz

Jörg Schmitz (* 1969 in Hanover ) is a German artist and designer.

Life

After graduating from high school in Hanover in 1989, Jörg Schmitz studied visual communication at the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Offenbach am Main , a. a. with Friedrich Friedl, Ruedi Baur and Franz Mon. In 1995 he co-founded the graphic design studio “thema - Visuelle Kommunikation”, which he headed until 2013 - most recently as a member of the AG. The most famous works include the logo of the German Leather Museum (1997) and the DAX logo (2000).

In 2003/04 Schmitz was teaching typography at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences . In addition to his work as a graphic designer, Schmitz has devoted himself artistically to handwriting in exhibitions and art-in-building projects since 2008. In the non-profit association Schrift und Bild eV and a foundation of the same name, which he co-founded, he dedicated himself to the preservation of works of visual and concrete poetry. Schmitz was influenced by his assistant and study time with Franz Mon (1996-1998) and by encounters with KO Götz, Timm Ullrichs and Dietrich Mahlow. He lives in Gelnhausen .
