Jørgen Nash

Jørgen Nash (born March 16, 1920 in Vejrum , Jutland , Denmark ; † May 17, 2004 ) was a Danish sculptor, painter, member of the artists' association CoBrA and the Situationist International .

life and work

Nash was born as Jørgen Axel Jørgensen and changed his family name from Jørgensen to Nash. He was the brother of Asger Jorn . Nash was married three times (his third wife was Lis Zwick) and had a total of six children. For the past 40 years Jørgen Nash has lived in the artist collective Drakabygget near Örkelljunga in Sweden.

On April 24, 1964, Nash beheaded the symbol of Copenhagen, the Little Mermaid . The media reported nationwide on the story of the "murder" of the little mermaid. Following this act, Jørgen Nash called himself Mermaid Killer / Mermaid Killer .
