Jewish elementary school (Emmendingen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jewish elementary school in Emmendingen , the district town of the Emmendingen district in Baden-Württemberg , was an elementary school maintained by the Emmendingen Jewish community . The Baden Jewish edict of 1809 allowed the Jewish communities to build their own schools, provided they covered the costs.

The school was located in the old synagogue , Kirchstrasse 11 ( 48 ° 7 ′ 17.4 ″  N , 7 ° 51 ′ 0.9 ″  E ), which was converted into a parish hall with a cantor's apartment and parish hall after 1823 . The school was later moved to the building at Karl-Friedrich-Strasse 62 ( 48 ° 7 ′ 24.6 ″  N , 7 ° 50 ′ 30.8 ″  E ).

The Jewish elementary schools were dissolved with the introduction of simultaneous schools in the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1876. The Jewish school in Emmendingen continued as a religious school until after 1900.
