A Jewish community in Commercy in the Meuse department in the French region of Lorraine already existed in the Middle Ages (probably in the 13th century), as evidenced by the name of a street as Judengasse (rue des Juifs).

In the 18th and 19th centuries, the Commercy Jewish community was important and the Jewish citizens contributed significantly to the city's economic development.
