Jewish cemetery (Danzig)

The Jewish Cemetery in Danzig ( Cmentarz Żydowski w Gdańsku ) is located in Chełm ( Stolzenberg ), a district of Danzig (Gdańsk) in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship . It was created in the 16th century. The Jewish cemetery is a protected cultural monument and covers 2.3 hectares.
history
The cemetery was laid out in the middle of the 16th century. Before 1814, the cemetery was largely destroyed during the Napoleonic Wars , but was restored and rebuilt in 1815. The Jewish cemetery on Hagelsberg was completely overbuilt by the fortress in 1840. The graves in Stolzenberg are reburied.
It remained undestroyed during World War II , but was looted after 1945. The last burial took place in 1956.
