history
The cemetery of the Jewish community in Aufhausen was probably laid out soon after the Jewish residents of Aufhausen were first mentioned in 1560. When the Jews were expelled from Baldern in 1658 , they took the gravestones from their cemetery with them and set them up in the Jewish cemetery in Aufhausen. Today they form the oldest part of the gravestones in the cemetery.
In the 41.43 ares large cemetery, burials took place until 1940. Today there are still 363 tombstones ( mazewot ) in the cemetery. Jews from Bopfingen and Lauchheim were also buried until 1936, and the Jews from Ellwangen until 1901 .
