Jewish cemetery (Batelov)

The Jewish cemetery in Batelov (German Battelau ), a Moravian minor town in Okres Jihlava in the Vysočina region in the Czech Republic , was built in the 16th century. The Jewish cemetery on a hill outside the city is a protected cultural monument .
history
Jews are mentioned in Battelau as early as the 15th century. In the middle of the 19th century the Jewish community in Battelau had almost 200 members. The last Jewish residents were deported to the Theresienstadt ghetto by the German occupiers in May 1942 .
The Jewish cemetery was laid out in the 16th century. There are many baroque and classicist tombstones ( Mazevot ) on the 2090 m² cemetery , the oldest dating from 1715.
