history

The cemetery of the Jewish community of Oranienburg was placed under monument protection after the devastation during the Nazi era at the end of the 1970s and restored in 1988. Burials took place in the 886 square meter cemetery until 1937. After an interruption of more than 60 years, a funeral has now been carried out again. Today 116 tombstones ( Mazewot ) are still preserved in the cemetery, including seven grave sites of the family of Oranienburg honorary citizen W. Michael Blumenthal. The cemetery buildings from the 19th century are still preserved. In August 2018, the state government in Potsdam received funding of over 130,000 euros to renovate the cemetery.
