history

After the Zwickau Israelite Religious Community was founded in 1904, it was able to create a burial site in 1905 on a plot of land on the road to Schneppendorf east of the old Pölbitz cemetery, which was surrounded by a wooden fence. In 1938 the gravestones were knocked over by National Socialist vandals and later the brass letters were also chopped off the gravestones. The small cemetery hall was also destroyed in 1938, the foundation is still preserved. A memorial commemorates the city's Jews murdered during the Nazi era.

In April 2003 the cemetery was badly desecrated. Of the 64 gravestones, 54 were knocked over and five badly damaged. Since then, the Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation in Zwickau has organized annual vigils / prayer nights together with parishes.
