Jewish cemetery (Zittau)
The Zittau Jewish Cemetery is a cemetery in the town of Zittau in the Görlitz district in Saxony .
The 1020 m² Jewish cemetery is located at Görlitzer Straße 67. There are around 50 tombstones .
history
The Jewish cemetery in Zittau was built around 1887. The oldest gravestone inscription is from 1888. It was surrounded by a wooden fence. He was desecrated during the Nazi era; the cemetery hall was blown up during the November pogrom in 1938 .
In 1948 a memorial stone was erected on the Jewish cemetery in memory of the 40 murdered Jewish citizens of the cities of Zittau and Löbau .
