Jewish cemetery Michelbach an der Lücke
The Jewish cemetery Michelbach an der Lücke is a Jewish cemetery in Michelbach an der Lücke , a district of the Wallhausen municipality in the Schwäbisch Hall district in northern Baden-Württemberg .
The dead of the Jewish community of Michelbach an der Lücke were initially buried in the Schopfloch Jewish cemetery ( district of Ansbach ), 20 kilometers away . The local saying “ We don't go to Schopfloch for a dead Jew ” originates from this time . It is still used today to make it clear that something is not worthwhile.
In 1840 a separate cemetery was built northwest of the village in the Judenwasen Gewann . The area of the Jewish cemetery is 23.01 acres ; today there are still 272 tombstones . The first burial took place in 1841 and the last in 1939.
